Walk Like an Egyptian

Back in 2008 me and some of my closest college friends had an amazing time traveling through Egypt. This details where we went and the most important sites to see!

Great Pyramids of Giza & Sphinx

Great Pyramid Inn, Giza Governorate, Egypt

Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World! One of my favorite things about this part of the trip was we actually were able to go deep into the passageway that lead to the king's chambers. Not for someone who is claustrophobic but by far the best part of pyramids aspect of the trip!

From there we went straight to the Sphinx - while visiting they were doing some restoration to it but still an amazing sight to see!

Step Pyramid

Pyramid of Djoser, Saqarah, Al Badrashin, Giza Governorate, Egypt

A big part of Egypt is the history but also - THE PYRAMIDS! We went a bit further down to the site of the oldest Egyptian pyramids, including the Step Pyramid built by Zoser during the 3rd Dynasty.

Memphis Tour

Memphis Tours, Al Estad, Nasr City, Cairo Governorate, Egypt

You HAVE to take a look around Memphis Cairo - a guided tour is the best option here. Memphis features a great sculpture museum and allows an evocative insight into both ancient greatness and modern Egyptian rural life. You learn a lot about the history of Egypt on this portion of the trip. Not for everyone.

Cruise Down the Nile

Nile, Minya, Menia Governorate, Egypt

The best way to see Egypt and its surroundings. We took a 3 day cruise down the Nile stopping along the way visiting the Temple of Edfu, Valley of the Kings and the Colossi of Memnon and Queen Hatshepsut's temple! We ended in Luxor which was amazing!

Temple of Edfu

Temple of Edfu, Adfo, Markaz Edfo, Aswan Governorate, Egypt

Valley of the Kings

Valley of the Kings, Qesm Al Wahat Al Khargah, New Valley Governorate, Egypt

This was one of my favorite spots - so much history and it was AMAZING to see where all the Kings were laid to rest - fun fact, while visiting King Tut AnkH Amun aka King Tut, body was still in his tomb - we were able to enter the tomb and take a look around - all gold and jewels had been removed. A must see spot!

Colossi of Memnon

Colossi of Memnon, Al Bairat, Luxor, Luxor Governorate, Egypt

"The City of a Thousand Minarets"

Cairo, Cairo Governorate, Egypt

Cairo was amazing - we took the time to go to the market place and look for souvenirs for friends and family. The hummus was amazing but only eat with pita bread.

Also we took the time to check out the Egyptian Museum - AMAZING!

Egyptain Museum

Egyptian Museum, Meret Basha, Ismailia, Qasr an Nile, Cairo Governorate, Egypt

AMAZING - take a look around at the history that surrounds Egypt. We got a tour guide who was able to explain each exhibit for us which allowed us to understand more about Egypt.

Al-Azhar Mosque

Al-Azhar Mosque, El-Darb El-Ahmar, Cairo Governorate, Egypt

Must See

Temple of Luxor

Luxor Temple, Luxor City, Luxor, Luxor Governorate, Egypt

This was a amazing - we went at night and to see all of the hieroglyphics lit up was unbelievable. Highly recommend!

Overnight Train from Aswan to Cairo

Aswan, Aswan Governorate, Egypt

Once we got off our cruise we took an overnight train to Cairo where we were planning on flying out of - not the best nights sleep but an experience I would recommend to any traveler.

Cairo Market

Cairo Market, Al Manteqah Al Oula, Nasr City, Cairo Governorate, Egypt

When we went here we had the best time finding souvenirs, best part is trying to get the locals to give you a cheaper price - or they might try to buy you. I almost was sold for 2 camels!

Hot Air Balloon Ride Over the Nile

Nile, Minya, Menia Governorate, Egypt

One day off the river we opted for a hot air balloon ride over the Nile, AMAZING!!! Highly recommend you find a company to help you do this. The photos are amazing!
