A Food Lover’s Guide to Florence

I recently studied abroad for four months in Florence, Italy. These are my top restaurant picks!

Best Pizza

Gusta Pizza, Via Maggio, Florence, Metropolitan City of Florence, Italy

Gusta Pizza may be a tourist trap, but it’s so good! My favorite was the classic Margareta. This shop is in a great area on the “other side of the Arno” that a lot of people overlook.

Best Pasta

Osteria delle Tre Panche, Via Antonio Pacinotti, Florence, Metropolitan City of Florence, Italy

Osteria delle Tre Panche was the BEST pasta I’ve ever had in my life….and I’ve had a lot of pasta. The wine list is amazing, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is super cozy. There’s three tables in the entire restaurant, and you can watch them SHAVING a giant truffle in the kitchen. They have an entire menu dedicated to truffle, and the pasta truly changed my mouth. You also can't miss the cheesecake!

Best Lunch Spot

Obicà - Firenze, Via dè Tornabuoni, Florence, Metropolitan City of Florence, Italy

Obica Mozzarella Bar has a mind blowing burrata. It’s located in the heart of the shopping district and has a great menu! I liked that they have outdoor seating that’s still private.

Best Panino

All'Antico Vinaio, Via dei Neri, Florence, Metropolitan City of Florence, Italy

If I had to choose one food that I miss the most from Italy, it's these sandwiches. There are so many great places, but this one definitely is the best. Wait on the line for the best truffle spread you'll ever have!

Best Cannoli

Don Nino, Piazza del Duomo, Florence, Metropolitan City of Florence, Italy

Located next to the Duomo, Don Nino’s serves GIANT cannoli’s that you watch being made in front of you. Pick your filling and topping, and try the gelato while you’re at it!

Best Overall

Il Profeta, Florence, Metropolitan City of Florence, Italy

Il Profeta takes the cake…and the pizza…and the pasta. Their service is unmatched. Seriously, they FEED you your first bite to make sure you really get the full experience. From their truffle pasta (which comes in an edible parmesan bowl) to their homemade fudge, this place is unforgettable. The best dish on the menu isn’t even on the menu: The John Travolta pasta is simply wonderful. Their secret sauce is unmatched anywhere else.
