Unforgettable Adventure in Peru: Inca Trail & the Amazon

Inca Trail with Alpaca ExpeditionsAmazing tour operator, once in a lifetime experience. My wife and I hiked the classic 4D/3N Inca Trail. We are so glad we used Alpaca. From start to finish, they were outstanding. The team is extremely organized and answered any questions we had pre-booking through the end of the trip. On the trail, our guides and the "Green Machine" porter crew exceeded all expectations. Our guide, Yoel, was incredible. He was organized, funny, sociable, extremely knowledgeable, and always willing to help with anything during our trek. Special shout out to our chef, Hermang (sp?). I was absolutely blown away by the quality and variety of food we had for every meal along the trail. We ate restaurant quality meals everyday, which the team cooked on tiny gas burners with ingredients they carried on their backs - unreal. Also, it was my birthday on the second day and they managed to make me a birthday cake - so nice! Hiking the Inca Trail is a once in a lifetime experience and easily one of the best experiences I've ever had, and Alpaca was the perfect company to go with. - Hotel in Cusco: Tierra Viva Cusco CentroGreat, centrally located hotel with extremely reasonable rates. Short walk to all the sights, comfortable rooms, and a nice breakfast every morning. They held out luggage while we were on the Inca Trail and seamlessly checked us into another room the night we returned from the hike. - Dinner at CicciolinaAmazing dinner our first night in Cusco. The restaurant is a little hard to find but when you get there it has a wonderful atmosphere. The menu is kind of a fusion between Italian and Peruvian cuisine. Everything we ate was delicious, as was my perfect pisco sour from the bar! This place was PACKED so definitely make a reservation. - Barrio Ceviche Seafood KitchenUnreal ceviche off the main square. Has a cool nautical theme inside. - Brunch at Jack's CafeA favorite of local backpackers and the expat community in Cusco. This place had a line out the door around brunch time, but luckily we timed it just right. Had the best huevos rancheros! Lots of great vegetarian options too. - Lunch at PachapapaAmazing local Peruvian cuisine served in a beautiful courtyard. Most of the food is made in a big wood-fired oven and super fresh. There was also a guy jamming on the harp, which made for some really nice background music (he even snuck in a great rendition of Despacito! lol). Try the alpaca steak! So good! - Plaza de ArmasThe central square of Cusco. Great place to start your day or stroll through at night. - San Blas DistrictCool artsy neighborhood north of the Plaza de Armas. Great restaurants, bars, and shops. - SacsayhuamanHuge Incan ruins just outside of Cusco. A must-see while in Cusco! We walked from Plaza de Armas (which takes around 30-40 mins and mostly uphill, but it was such a nice day!), but you can also take a quick cab ride there. - Cristo BlancoHuge statue of Christ up in the mountains above Cusco (you can see it lit up at night from anywhere in the city). - Hotel in Lima: Tierra Viva Miraflores LarcoNice hotel located in the Miraflores neighborhood (definitely where you want to stay in Lima). We were only in Lima for a day in between Cusco and the Amazon, so we didn't spend much time in the hotel, but the rooms were nice and a good location. - Sushi lunch at MaidoHighly regarded sushi restaurant in Lima. After several days of hiking and meals on the Inca Trail, we splurged on some fantastic sushi once we arrived in Lima. Super trendy ambience and the quality of the fish here was unreal. Highly recommended - Amazon Rainforest Adventure at Muyuna LodgeWe flew from Lima to Iquitos, a small city on the edge of the Amazon rainforest. We then took a 3 hour boat ride into the jungle to Muyuna Lodge, where we spent 3 days. This place is in the heart of the rainforest and yet has everything you need. They arranged all our activities, including boat rides, walks to see animals, swimming, and kayaking. We even got to swim near dolphins (never knew there were dolphins in the Amazon until now lol). All the rooms have a balcony with hammocks overlooking the river/forest. All activities and meals were included. If you want to visit the Amazon, this is the place to do it. -

Magical Peru: Trekking to Machu Picchu + Lima + Cusco

Hotel in Cusco - Casona Les PleiadesCentrally located, very nice staff, simple hotel. They were very nice to hold our luggage while we went on a 4 day trek to Machu Picchu. - The Salkantay Trekking CompanyGreat company to book through! Our guide, David, was really amazing, knowledgable and supportive throughout the trek. The chef was amazing, every meal we had was really good, and there was more than enough food. This company provides all gear: walking sticks, tents, sleeping bags, food, etc. Highly recommend them! - The Salkantay Trek - 3 full days!Challenging, but amazing trek from Cusco to Machu Picchu! We did the 3 day, 2 night variation. Expect to hike/walk A LOT - 10 hr/day! You sleep in small villages throughout the Andes. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Day 2 is really challenging due to elevation and continue to climb higher. We opted for a horse ride for half this day up the mountain which was really amazing also. You're woken up at 5 am with Coca Tea, and a warm breakfast. There is a stop along the way for luncher and little stops for snacks. - Chocolate Making Class in CuscoVery fun chocolate making class! - Amazing Tasting Dinner at Gastrid y Aston in LimaFood was delicious! - Surfing in Miraflores in LimaHead down to the beach, rent surfboards or grab a lesson and hop in the water! There are a few little surf schools right on the sand. Don't swallow any water or you'll risk getting sick! - Hotel in Miraflores - The DazzlerNice hotel in Miraflores with a rooftop pool! They serve a great breakfast, and the staff are ver nice. - Great restaurant in CuscoReally good food and wine with a nice, quiet atmosphere. - The San Pedro Market - CuscoGreat market with tons of awesome handmade crafts! Book a tour through your hotel or in Cusco! - Machu PicchuAMAZING! Incredible experience to be here and learn about this site. Take it all in. Do some of the hikes around Machu Picchu if you're feeling up for it. - Fun Bar in the Barranco District in LimaThe Barranco District is a fun place to go out at night in Lima. This was one of the bars we liked! Boucne around this area - most of the bars are all on one street. -
